Striking workers at Frankfurt airport are extending their stoppage until Wednesday, 22 February 2012, in a bid to turn up pressure in their pay dispute, unions said on Monday. Following two days of warning strikes last week, the GdF union for air traffic workers said that a third round of stoppages, originally planned to run for 24 hours from 04h00 GMT Monday, would now be extended to 48 hours due to the intransigence of the airport operator Fraport.
Fraport, for its part, said it was confident it could ensure that “up to 70 percent” of the roughly 1,250 daily flights at Frankfurt could be serviced despite the strike, including all intercontinental connections.
Wings travel consultants remain on alert and are ready to assist passengers with any changes that might be required as a result of this continuing strike action.
